The electric car is on the rise. In 2022, the European market in this segment grew by 12%. This figure is a performance.

Within 12 years, this engine should be the only one authorized for new cars in Europe. The segment will therefore account for 12.1% of new car sales in 2022, compared with 9.1% in 2021 and 1.9% in 2019. This is a remarkable increase in such a short period of time and in a car market that has been hampered by logistical problems since the pandemic. At the same time, it has collapsed to the same level as in 1993.

Overall, sales of electric vehicles have increased by 28% compared to 2021. With more than 1.1 million vehicles sold, sales were driven in particular by the German market, Sweden and Belgium. They even accelerated at the end of 2022.

In Norway, a record four out of five new cars (79%) are electric. The kingdom, a major oil producer, aims to end the use of internal combustion engines in new registrations by 2025. That's ten years ahead of the EU. In this buoyant context, the Italian market is the only one to have slowed down the growth of electric cars over the period (-26.9%).
