The normative and regulatory watch is the monitoring and analysis of changes in the regulatory and normative environment of an industry at the national, European and international levels.

Failure to keep up with these changes can lead to dangerous and costly difficulties.

The Euro 7 emissions standard has not yet been ratified, but carmakers are not reassured.

Rarely has an approval standard that is supposed to combat pollution been so contested before it is even effective!
Euro 7 is due to come into force in two and a half years, on 1 July 2025. While some points are rather positive (preservation of LPG, hoped-for reliability of batteries, etc.), the text also raises many doubts about its feasibility and relevance.

To pursue both electrification and Euro 7 at the same time seems irreconcilable to some. The budget allocations suggest that it would bemuch more relevant to make hybrids that can be bought by a majority rather than electrics that are not very widespread...

The new limits set by Euro 7 raise questions. One could even say that it is the absence of limits that is worrying for manufacturers, since the direction Euro 7 is taking will mainly result in an increase in the price of new cars. There is no longer a limit to the number of vehicles that can be used to meet the standards.

The association of European car manufacturers has just made a series of counter-proposals to Europe. Will it hear them?
